   Meet the Owners

Whatever Antiques is the culmination of life long plan by two sisters, Barbara Mathewson and Michelle McCulloch to follow in the footsteps of their parents, Barry and Christine Vuyk.  The girl’s parents owned a cute little Antique shop in the heart of Dunedin in the 1980’s, called Beaux Arts Boutique.  This is where Barbara and Michelle started to learn and appreciate Antiques.  The love of all things old came from a mother who always loved beautiful things and a father who was a watchmaker/jeweller by trade.  The enthusiasms rubbed off on them both and they started collecting and have never stopped.

   Share their Passion

Whatever Antiques is an opportunity for the girls to indulge in their passion and to be able to share that with their customers.  The vast majority of their stock comes from their own collections and shows a wonderful eclectic range of items. They are strongly influenced by the 1920 thru to the 1940’s.  The shop has items that would look good in any home as the Art Deco Era took minimalism and individualism to heart.  Arts and Crafts is also a passion and is linked to Deco as the line between the two styles blurs.  It is all about something stylish, unusual and beautiful.  Occasional Edwardian and Victorian pieces slip in and look wonderful in the mix of diverse items they have on show.

The shop is set up in such a way as to show each area off as an individual living space so as to help the customer visualise items in their own homes.  This little showroom is a feast for the eyes and senses to enjoy……a stroll down memory lane for some and a voyage of discovery for others.
